 About ERASMUS+

Erasmus+ is the EU programme for education, training, youth, and sport for 2014-2020. The programme will have a budget of €14.7 billion and has followed the achievements of other EU educational programmes organised for the past 25 years. In Poland, Erasmus+ is centrally administered by the Foundation for the Development of the Education System

Erasmus – International Credit Mobility 2017 project (ICM – KA107)

The objectives and implementation of such projects are closely related to those of Erasmus Mundus Programme.

Notice: List of partner countries eligible for the participation in the programme varies from call of proposals to call of proposals (and from project to project).

Each year, based on the Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreements and in cooperation with faculty mobility coordinators, the International Relations Office (IRO) prepares and submits to the Foundation for the Development of the Education System a new project under the framework of Erasmus – Mobility with Partner Countries (KA107). Financial support may be given to both incoming and outgoing students and staff, provided it was agreed on in a given project.

In accordance with the funds granted by the Foundation for the Development of the Education System, the IRO opens calls for applications. All successful applicants (both incoming and outgoing) sign an individual scholarship agreement.

Erasmus Mundus

The main objective of the Erasmus Mundus programme was to enhance the quality of European higher education and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation with Third Countries.

The programme was implemented through three actions:

  • Action 1: joint master (Action 1 A) and doctoral (Action 1 B) studies;
  • Action 2: mobility projects between European and Third Country higher education institutions at all academic levels;
  • Action 3: projects to enhance the attractiveness of European higher education and its further internationalisation.

Since 2014, some of the Erasmus Mundus aims have been implemented through Erasmus+ programme (2014-2020), i.e. within the framework of the following projects:  International Credit Mobility with Partner Countries (ICM – KA107), Capacity building or Strategic Partnership. Universities which are planning to conduct joint study programmes may apply for a grant within the framework of Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees.

Some of the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 projects which were launched in the last year of functioning of the programme (2014) will still be operating until July 2018. It means that most of these projects are already closed for applications.

The University of Warsaw joined this prestigious EU programme in 2007. The statistics show that, among all Polish universities, UW has realised the biggest number of Erasmus Mundus projects (34) and is best experienced in their implementation:

1.UW participated as a partner university in 3 projects on joint master studies (in the framework of Action 1):

2. UW participated as a partner university in 28 Erasmus Mundus projects of Action 2. All the projects, coordinated by the International Relations Office (IRO), included countries of Eastern Partnership (WEBB), Russia (AURORA), Asia, including Central Asia (several projects altogether), South-Mediterranean region (JOSYLEEN, JOSYLEEM), Latin America (FellowMundus).

3. UW (IRO) has been a coordinator of four Action 2 projects: SALAM and SALAM 2 – Iran, Iraq, Yemen; SIGMA and SIGMA Agile – Western Balkans.

CENTRAL: Blended Intensive Programme for PhD Students
28 września 2022

BIP for PhD. Students – Call for proposals  – “Central Europe: What unites and divides us” 21-25 November 22

I. General information

The CENTRAL Network primarily promotes cooperation in the fields of teaching, research and support for young researchers. In connection with the opening of the second stage of the cooperation, CENTRAL announces a special topic followed by further activities. Each of these topics has had wider social or political importance, especially within the context of Central Europe. The goal for academics or PhD. students from different countries, backgrounds and areas of study is to come up with multilateral ideas and solutions. The theme is “Central Europe: What unites and divides us”. The purpose of the meeting is to connect senior academics with Pd.D. students and together try to discuss the problems of Central Europe – specifically what unites or divides us. The whole event will be divided into six sessions led by selected academics. They will start with a lecture on the topic. This will be followed by a workshop in which each student will have to give a paper of about 15 minutes, followed by a debate moderated by the selected academic.

The CENTRAL BIP for PhD. students aims to bring PhD. students and selected senior academics from the CENTRAL member universities together. A virtual meeting of all participants will take place approximately two weeks before the workshop. The content will include a lecture by a leading academic on the topic of Central Europe. It will be an overall reflection on Central Europe, which should still inspire students for further discussions in their personal encounters. At the end of the lecture, the topic can be further developed in the discussion and students can clarify the main ideas for their presentation.

The main workload for students will be preparing a 15 minute paper to present in a face-to-face session. At the same time, they will have to answer questions that will arise from the debate of all present at the event under the guidance of the academic. As this will be a general question on the development, history and present of Central Europe, the student should have the knowledge and competence to place their paper in a more general context. The quality of presentations and active participation during the debate will also be evaluated. The evaluation will be carried out by the participating academics.
