On 2nd July at 12:00 pm IRO organised a webinar dedicated to students who will start their studies at the University of Warsaw under the Erasmus+ programme in the winter semester 2020/21.
IRO staff provided all participants with information on formalities and the organisation of classes in the next academic year.

Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) Seminar „What’s New in Brussels”: presentation on the University of Warsaw participation in the programme Erasmus+ European Universities and realization of the project „Academic Partnership for Innovation in Teaching and Learning”, sponsored by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) within the programme International Academic Prtnerships.
Visit of the delegation from Shenzhen University, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology and Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality – discussions on possible cooperation with the representatives of the UW Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling.
A seminar „Academic Diplomacy and New Mechanism for the Internationalization in Mexico and Poland” , organised in cooperation with Mexican Embassy took place in the Faculty of Political Sciences and International Studies. The guests and students of the Faculty discussed some aspects of internationalization and possibilities of extension of cooperation with Mexico.
University of Warsaw hosted a delegation of professors from Sun Yat-Sen University (China). The meeting concerned possibilities of cooperation in such fields as biology, chemistry, environmental studies, computer science, linguistics.

University of Warsaw hosted a delegation from Tamkang University, Taiwan. The purpose of the visit was to discuss further bilateral cooperational (lasting since 2001) and to renew agreements of academic cooperation and student exchange. Tamkang University was represented by President Huan-Chao Keh, Vice-president, deans and representatives of administration, while the University of Warsaw was represented by Rector Marcin Pałys, Vice-Rector Jolanta Choińska-Mika, representatives of UW departments and International Relations Office.
Meeting with the representatives of Dongfang International Center for Educational Exchange (China Scholarship Council) to discuss cooperation between UW and Chinese universities.
Meeting with the delegation from Yunnan Province, discussions on possible academic cooperation and student exchange.
Meeting of the partnership Academic Partnership for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (API) at the University of Heidelberg, 30-31.10.2019. It was a preparatory meeting for the short module programmes, which are planned to be organized at each API partner university in the academic year 2019/20. The aim is to develop innovative forms of short exchange programmes with the use effective methods of teaching and learning. Academic Partnership for Innovation in Teaching and Learning is a project sponsored by Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) within the programme International Academic Partnerships. The partnership is composed of 4 4EU+ partners: University of Warsaw (project leader), University of Heidelberg, Charles University in Prague and Sorbonne University. The project is managed by the International Relations Office of the University of Warsaw in cooperation with Digital Competences Centre. More info on 4EU+ website.
Meeting with the delegation from Beijing Foreign Studies University (PUJO), China. The discussions concerned academic cooperation and a possibility to develop joint study programme for translators/ interpreters.
Meeting with the delegation from Gakushuin Women University (Japan) to discuss student exchange and further academic cooperation.
Visit of the delegation from The Education University of HongKong, discussions on possible future cooperation.
On 26th September, approximately 750 short-term students from abroad gathered in the Auditorium Maximum building to get the most important information on their stay at the University of Warsaw.
The event was organised by the International Relations Office of UW for those exchange students who will stay at UW for one or two semesters. They were participants of Erasmus+ programme, bilateral and governmental agreements as well as the Fulbright programme.
Participation in Erasmus+ Peer Learning Seminar on the Quality of Staff Training Mobility in Higher Education (Vienna, 18-20.09.2019), organized by National Agency Erasmus+ Education Austria; giving presentation on widening participation and innovative formats of staff training.
On Wednesday, September 18th, the Second Congress on the Development of the Education System took place at the National Stadium. Representatives of the International Relations Office of the University of Warsaw attended the event. The Congress was organized by the Foundation for the Development of the Education System, which coordinates many educational programmes of the European Union in Poland, including Erasmus+ Programme.
„Wisdom – Creativity – Innovation. Education for the future.” was the theme of this year’s Congress. Among the experts attending the event: teachers, educators, local and central government officials, a dozen were from the University of Warsaw.
As part of the 2nd Congress, European Day of Languages (EDJ) – established by the Council of Europe in 2001 – was celebrated. The event’s partner was the Centre for Foreign Language Teacher Training and European Education of the University of Warsaw. Experts took part in the discussions, conducted workshops and gave valuable tips and advices.
On Monday, September 16th, another edition of the Intensive Polish language course for Erasmus+ students, organized by the „Polonicum” Centre for Polish Language and Polish Culture for Foreigners and the International Relations Office was launched. During the survival language course, which is conducted at two levels – basic and advanced – students can learn practical phrases used in everyday communication. There are over 120 participants. Classes take place every day and will last until September 27th.
Visit from National Taiwan University (NTU). Durng the visit, Prof. Marcin Pałys, UW Rector, and i Dr. Chung-Ming KUAN, NTU President, signed an agreement on scholarly exchange and collaboration.
The University of Warsaw hosted Workshop on the development of innovative didactic materials, tools and techniques. Participants from 4EU partner universities (University of Warsaw, Charles University in Prague, Heidelberg University, Sorbonne University) discussed such aspects as the fundamentals of e-learning, designing courses with the ABCD method (focused on achieving planned learning outcomes), educational testing with the use of psychometric analysis, research based teaching and learning accross the disciplines. The Workshop has been organized within the project „Academic Partnership for Innovation in Teaching and Learning” (API), sponsored by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, coordinated by the University of Warsaw – International Relations Office and Digital Competence Centre.
The University of Warsaw hosts the International Staff Training Week. 29 people from 20 countries came to Warsaw to take part in the event entitled “Cross-cultural communication. Resolving conflicts in an intercultural community”. Training was organized by IRO UW.
Fourth Krzysztof Michalek Memorial lecture was organized jointly by the University of Warsaw and Indiana University Bloomington. The lecture entitled „Kurt Vonnegut and ‘Quality of Place’ in America’s Midwest” was delivered by prof. Edward P. Comentale, Professor of English, Associate Vice Provost for Arts and Humanities and Director of the Arts and Humanities Council at Indiana University Bloomington.

API Project Meeting in Prague, 25th-26th April, 2019
Charles University hosted representatives of 4EU partner universities – partners within the project „Academic Partnership for Innovation in Teaching and Learning” (API), sponsored by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, coordinated by the University of Warsaw (International Relations Office). The participants were working on the preparation of the Worskop on the development and application of innovative didactic materials, tools and techniques, which will be held at the University of Warsaw in June 2019.
