The invasion of Ukraine by the armed forces of the Russian Federation is a brutal breach of international law, which the universities united in CENTRAL condemn in the strongest possible terms. Central Europe has been the scene of such aggression by totalitarian states several times in the 20th century, both by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. The memory of the associated crimes is alive in Central Europe. We have all the more respect for the unshakeable will of the Ukrainian people to establish a democratic constitutional state in their country on the basis of the values we all share and profess. Ukrainians and their country are an integral part of Europe. We declare our solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their struggle for freedom and democracy.
